Mattie’s Austin

Having family in the food industry opened up my eyes to how amazing it is to find a restaurant that feels like a second home right when you walk in the door. My Uncle was the manager of a restaurant in Austin Called Green Pastures while I was growing up. My family would go to Green Pastures for special occasions or anytime really that we wanted to annoy my Uncle at work. I remember running around the grounds growing up and spending lots of time in the old house which was used as an upscale restaurant and wedding venue. After the news broke that Green Pastures wouldn’t be open anymore I was concerned at what might come of this restaurant that felt like a second home to me. Mattie’s at Green Pastures is now keeping the legacy of Green Pastures alive and well but with a new more modern twist.

Sunday brunch at Mattie’s was everything I hoped for from an amazing staff, tasteful atmosphere, and great food! Mattie’s Austin has defiantly filled in Green Pastures shoes. Mattie’s Austin serves brunch and dinner for guest with an extensive wine and drink menu. Eating from their brunch menu, I highly recommend the fried chicken eggs benedict and the brioche french toast. The fried chicken eggs benedict comes with buttermilk biscuits, hollandaise sauce, and poached eggs. The brioche french toast comes paired with candied pecans, fresh berries, and bourbon-maple syrup. Everything that came out to our table was delicious from the brunch menu but, I must say I was blown away by their drinks. Offering one of the best bloody marys I have had which instantly cured my killer hangover gave Mattie’s an automatic five stars in my book. I also highly recommend their milk punch which is a drink that has been carried over from the original Green Pastures menu.

Everyone in Austin should experience Mattie’s at Green Pastures at least once and see what this 19th century home has to offer. Making a reservation of calling is the only way to get access to Mattie’s so plan accordingly and contact them with any special occasions needs or requests. Mattie’s at Green Pastures is also an amazing wedding venue spot in Austin. The prices are also not out of reach to people wanting to enjoy a delicious meal in the heart of South Austin.
